Prelude
Hallelujah What A Savior
As we sing this song, you are invited to take time preparing your hearts and minds to worship King Jesus together.
Call To Worship
Leader: There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
All: And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.
Leader: Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his loins.
All: In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious.
— Isaiah 11:1-5, 10, ESV
Declaration
A Day of Glory
Verse 1
A day, a day of promise
A hope to end our woe
A day that tells of triumph
Against our vanquished foe
Verse 2
In flesh His entrance humble
The swaddling clothes His robe
The meek displayed in power
The Prince of Peace now known
Chorus
Let angels shout in triumph
As mortals raise their voice
Behold the Son of heav’n and earth
The King of Kings is born
Verse 3
A day, a day of glory
When Jesus calls us home
Our glorious King eternal
Returning for His own
Bridge
Gloria, gloria, gloria
Our King has come!
A day, a day of promise
A hope to end our woe
A day that tells of triumph
Against our vanquished foe
Verse 2
In flesh His entrance humble

Affirmation of Faith: An Advent Creed
I believe in God, the sovereign Creator
of everyone and everything.
I believe in the goodness of His plan
from before time for all mankind.
I believe in Jesus Christ,
The Word made flesh,
who dwelt among us.
He was conceived by the power
of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He emptied Himself,
assuming the form of a servant,
becoming like us.
He humbled Himself,
becoming obedient to the
point of death on the cross,
and arose victoriously three days later, defeating death.
I believe that He is King of Kings
and Lord of Lords, and will one day return to make all things new.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
who sustains us as we long for Christ.
He empowers us to be holy
and unites us together,
in Christ, as the church.
I believe He will sustain us
until we see Christ face to face.
Amen.

Greeting
“For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.”
Ephesians 2:14-16, ESV
Scripture Reading
Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him —
a Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
a Spirit of counsel and strength,
a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.
His delight will be in the fear of the Lord.
He will not judge
by what he sees with his eyes,
he will not execute justice
by what he hears with his ears,
but he will judge the poor righteously
and execute justice for the oppressed of the land.
He will strike the land
with a scepter from his mouth,
and he will kill the wicked
with a command from his lips.
Righteousness will be a belt around his hips;
faithfulness will be a belt around his waist.
The wolf will dwell with the lamb,
and the leopard will lie down with the goat.
The calf, the young lion, and the fattened calf will be together,
and a child will lead them.
The cow and the bear will graze,
their young ones will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like cattle.
An infant will play beside the cobra’s pit,
and a toddler will put his hand into a snake’s den.
They will not harm or destroy each other
on my entire holy mountain,
for the land will be as full
of the knowledge of the Lord
as the sea is filled with water.
On that day the root of Jesse
will stand as a banner for the peoples.
The nations will look to him for guidance,
and his resting place will be glorious.

Corporate Confession
Merciful God, always with us, always coming: We confess that we do not know how to prepare for your Advent. We have forgotten how to hope in miracles; we have ignored the promise of your kingdom; we get distracted by all the busyness of this season. Forgive us, God. Grant us the simple wonder of the shepherds, the intelligent courage of the Magi, and the patient faith of Mary and Joseph, that we may journey with them to Bethlehem and find the good news of a child born for us. Now, in the quiet of our hearts, we ask you to make us ready for his coming. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Leader: Almighty God, by whose providence our Savior, Jesus Christ, came among us in great humility, will sanctify you with the light of his blessing, ransoming you from sin, death, and hell.
All: Thanks be to Jesus, our Messiah, who comes among us, setting us free from sin and darkness.
Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
Verse 1
Come thou long-expected Jesus,
Born to set thy people free
From our fears and sins release us;
Let us find our rest in thee
Israel’s strength and consolation,
Hope of all the earth thou art,
Dear desire of ev’ry nation,
Joy of every longing heart
Verse 2
Born thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a king
Born to reign in us forever,
Now thy gracious kingdom bring
By thine own eternal spirit;
Rule in all our hearts alone
By thine all sufficient merit,
Raise us to thy glorious throne
Chorus
Hail the King, Son of God
Spotless lamb, the Holy One
Crucified to save all His daughters and sons
Jesus Christ, Victorious One
